Greetings from the Governor

Governor Joe Manchin III

As the Governor of West Virginia, I invite you to explore our state by traveling on one of the most enjoyable routes in the nation, the Midland Trail National Scenic Byway, otherwise known as U.S. Route 60. The natural beauty and allure of the terrain will mesmerize you as you drive on this 180 mile passageway through the heart of the state.

I recommend that you make frequent stops along the way to enjoy the breathtaking landscape, electrifying outdoor adventure, spectacular state parks, charming fairs and festivals, and rich cultural heritage. You'll enjoy discovering all of the treasures West Virginia has to offer.

Along with being an enjoyable road to travel on, the Midland Trail National Scenic Byway has also played a key role in history, since George Washington, Daniel Boone, Revolutionary and Civil War troops, west-bound pioneers, and slaves seeking freedom have traveled on this path.

Once again, welcome to the Mountain State. Along with traveling on the Mildand Trail National Scenic Byway, I invite you to stay and discover what the other regions of the state have to offer. You'll find that everthing is imaginable here in Wild Wonderful West Virginia.

With warmest regards,

Joe Manchin III

Governor

Alice Hypes,

Executive Director

Midland Trail Scenic Highway

As Executive Director of the Midland Trail Scenic Highway Association, I invite you to leave the Interstate behind and enjoy the special travel experience that comes by taking "the old road."

The Midland Trail National Scenic Byway (U.S. Route 60), is the state's oldest and longest Scenic Byway. It is a well-paved dual-lane highway running along side I-64 in several places, as it stretches 180+ miles from border-to-border across south central West Virginia from White Suphur Springs and Lewisburg to the East, through the Captial City of Charleston, and on to Huntington and Kenova to the west.
